Exhibition Detritus
There is a narrative that runs behind this collection of finds. One that would be familiar to any regular exhibition goer. The rhythmic story of setting up a show: private view, exhibition, taking the show down and refurbishment of the gallery ready for the next show. This collection of objects echo that process: a wine bottle broken at the private view, a small remnant of an exhibition flyer, an orange juice carton seal from the same private view, an excess squirt of filler from patching the walls once the show is over. The scrap of wall paper is a little more enigmatic. It is not part of the decorative scheme for the gallery but could be a tiny fragment of a piece of work or installation. The only intruder into this tight contained world is the autumnal leaf blown in from outside as visitors to the exhibition come in. There is another relationship though, a more tacit, less obvious one. A visual relationship but not one that is immediately apparent. It is almost as though the objects form vowels and consonants in a pictorial word. |
